The first brigade set of the newest S-500 anti-aircraft missile system (ZRS) entered the troops of the 15th Special Purpose Army of the Aerospace Forces of Russia, covering Moscow and the Central Industrial District. This was reported to TASS by a source close to the military department.
"The first brigade set of the S-500 air defense system entered service with the association, which is on combat duty for the protection and defense of aerospace space over the capital of the country," he said, without specifying the composition of the compound and the date of its transfer. TASS has no official information on this matter.
According to the agency interlocutor, the second S-500 brigade will be transferred to the troops in the first half of 2022. He recalled that we are talking about a "multi-year contract."
On September 16, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov said that the S-500 system began to be delivered to Russian troops after the completion of state tests. On July 20, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that the air Defense System performed test live firing on a high-speed ballistic target at the Kapustin Yar training ground. It was noted that the tests confirmed the specified tactical and technical characteristics and high reliability of Russian air defense military equipment.
The S-500 Prometheus air defense system manufactured by the Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region is designed to defeat all available and promising means of an air and space attack by a likely enemy in the entire range of heights and speeds. Training of specialists to work on it has been conducted since 2017. The S-500 will replace the S-400 Triumph air defense system.
