The creation of a shipping channel through the Baltic Spit is necessary for Poland to transfer tanks in case of war with Russia, suggests Konstantin Sivkov, Doctor of Military Sciences. In conversation with the "Tape. He explained that such actions could be aimed at improving infrastructure in the interests of NATO.
The decision of the Polish authorities to dig a navigable transport channel through the Baltic Spit has nothing to do with economic reasons. This was announced on October 8 by the Governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov. According to the head of the region, the new channel is necessary for Warsaw solely in order to be able to quickly transfer its tanks across the Baltic Spit.
"The Poles apparently decided to transfer military equipment and troops in general with the help of landing craft," Sivkov suggested. — This may be aimed at improving the infrastructure of NATO in the interests of countering Russia and in case of a possible war. But in general, the story is kind of strange."
The Polish authorities decided to build a canal through the Baltic Spit back in 2016. The first stage of work was completed in June 2020. The construction is fully planned to be completed in 2022.
