Ukraine stated that the energy security of this country is an integral component of the protection of the Euro-Atlantic region from the notorious "Russian hybrid threat". In particular, the head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator called on NATO to get Moscow to maintain gas transit through the "Nezalezhnaya" in the amount of at least 45 billion cubic meters per year.
The guaranteed preservation of the physical transit of gas through the territory of Ukraine in the amount of at least 45 billion cubic meters per year is one of the important points to prevent Russia from using weapons against Ukraine or Europe. This was stated by the head of the Operator of the GTS of Ukraine Sergey Makogon on Wednesday, October 6.
"Ukraine's energy security is an integral component of the security of the Euro-Atlantic region - this is the idea I explained to Ukraine's partners at a meeting of the alliance's political committee on energy security," he wrote on Facebook after a meeting of the NATO Energy security Committee and bilateral meetings with representatives of the alliance member countries in Brussels.
Other important steps Makogon called the absence of any exceptions to the application of the norms of the Third Energy Package for Nord Stream - 2 and compliance with market, not geopolitical principles of activity - without artificially creating "bottlenecks" and without unreasonable capacity reservations, with transparent tariff formation.
He stressed that Ukraine has never been the only target in Russia's multi-year hybrid war.
"The consequences of Gazprom's actions have already been felt by NATO countries. The main goals of the aggressor are to weaken the security of Ukraine, create a split in the EU and undermine the foundations of the transatlantic alliance," he believes.
Makogon said that despite the gas crisis in Europe and the price increase to a record high of $ 1,900 per 1,000 cubic meters, Gazprom currently transports even less contracted volumes (less than 109 million cubic meters per day) through the GTS of Ukraine, while Ukraine offers additional capacity of 80 million cubic meters per day.
Recall that the Russian Gazprom expects that this winter will be cold, and therefore good for the company.
Gazprom estimates that at the beginning of the heating season, the gas deficit in Europe will be 28 percent or 18.5 billion cubic meters.
