The NATO leadership has revoked the accreditation of 8 members of the Russian mission, accusing them of espionage, writes Le Figaro.
And it will be impossible to appoint new people to these posts, so only 10 people remain to represent Russia at the alliance.
NATO announced that it had withdrawn accreditation from 8 members of the Russian mission, accusing them of espionage. According to Le Figaro, the Russian representation at the alliance has only 10 people left after that, that is, the number of possible posts has also been reduced.
"NATO's policy towards Russia remains consistent. We have strengthened our deterrence system and our defense in response to Russia's aggressive actions, while we remain open to constructive dialogue," one of the leaders of the alliance stressed.
In April, NATO countries condemned Russia's "destabilizing actions" on the territory of some alliance members and announced that they would analyze the possibilities of retaliatory actions.
Back in March 2018, NATO withdrew accreditation from seven members of the Russian mission, expelled them from Belgium, where the alliance headquarters is located, and after the poisoning of the Skripals, refused Russia three additional accreditations. Then the number of Russia's representatives to NATO decreased from 30 to 20 people.
In addition, a diplomatic crisis broke out at that time — and Western countries expelled about 150 Russian diplomats. Russia responded with the same measures, RT - Le Figaro quotes.
