The UN member states are implementing a course on the deployment of weapons in space, building up the potential of force impact (both kinetic and non-kinetic) on space objects, the Foreign Ministry stressed
UN, October 7. /TASS/. The transformation of outer space into an arena of conflicts is becoming a real threat, but this cannot be allowed. This is stated in a statement by Vladimir Ermakov, Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, which was read out at a meeting of the First Committee of the UN General Assembly on Arms Control.
"The risks of turning outer space into an arena of conflicts are becoming quite real," the Russian diplomat noted. "A number of UN member states are pursuing a policy of deploying weapons in outer space, building up the potential for forceful impact (both kinetic and non-kinetic) on space objects and using outer space for combat operations in order to achieve their own military superiority."
Ermakov added that Russia intends to submit to the First Committee of the UN General Assembly a number of resolutions designed to prevent the transformation of outer space into an arena of hostilities, including the non-placement of weapons in space first, to strengthen transparency and trust in space activities, as well as measures to prevent an arms race in outer space.
