Tbilisi. October 6. INTERFAX - Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani said that Georgia should always be ready to join NATO and believes that a political decision on Georgia's accession to the alliance will mature in NATO very soon.
"We should not be intimidated by the statement (of the NATO Secretary General - IF) that we cannot say when this (Georgia's accession - IF) will happen. We must continue our agenda, Georgia must constantly implement such reforms as strengthening defense, compatibility with NATO, strengthening democratic institutions. We must be ready for the moment when a political solution is ripe. I am sure that this will happen very soon," Zalkaliani said on Wednesday on the Georgian TV company Rustavi-2, commenting on the statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that Georgia and Ukraine's accession to NATO will happen "not tomorrow."
According to him, at one time, before the Baltic countries joined NATO, the alliance made the same statements, but the geopolitical situation changed very quickly and by that time these countries were already ready.
