INTERFAX - U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the importance of further coordination of the parties on issues related to relations between Washington and Moscow during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, the U.S. State Department reported.
"Both sides stressed the importance of constant coordination on topical issues of bilateral relations," the ministry said in a statement.
In addition, Blinken and Lavrov "agreed on the importance of a rapid return to mutual compliance by Iran and the United States with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)" on Iran's nuclear program.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Secretary of State, commenting on the conversation with Lavrov, said that the United States and Russia share an interest in reviving the Iran deal.
"As for the conversation with Foreign Minister Lavrov, we paid attention to the JCPOA. The United States and Russia, I think, share an interest in a mutual return to the obligations under the JCPOA. Russia is an important participant in these efforts," Blinken said during a press conference.
The Secretary of State noted that he and the Russian Foreign Minister exchanged views on the current state of affairs in this area and on the results that it is desirable to achieve.
