The basis of the Russian contingent will be the units of the 201st military base
YEKATERINBURG, October 5. /TASS/. More than 2.7 thousand servicemen of the Central Military District (CVO) and more than 500 pieces of equipment will be involved in October in three joint exercises of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which will be held in Tajikistan. This was announced to journalists on Tuesday by the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin.
Earlier, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas announced the holding of a number of large-scale military exercises near the Tajik-Afghan border.
"In October, in Tajikistan, near the border with Afghanistan, we will hold three joint exercises with the military contingents of the CSTO member states "Interaction", "Search" and "eChelon", in which we will involve more than 2.7 thousand military personnel and over 500 pieces of equipment. The basis of the Russian contingent will be the units of the 201st military base," Lapin said.
The press service of the Central Military District clarified that practical actions will be carried out at two Tajik training grounds, Kharb-Maydon and Momirak, with the participation of military contingents of six CSTO member states.
The Collective Security Treaty was signed in 1992 in Tashkent, and in 2002 it was decided to create an appropriate organization. The CSTO includes Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Tajikistan chairs the CSTO in 2020-2021.
