Russia insists on the full implementation of the agreement between Putin and Erdogan on the isolation of terrorists
Moscow. October 4. INTERFAX - In the Idlib de-escalation zone, the terrorist threat persists and in some places even increases, terrorists there are trying to act against the Russian contingent, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday.
"The terrorist threat persists in the Idlib de-escalation zone, and is even increasing in some places. We have expressed concern about this situation today. Terrorist groups continue to attack the positions of the Syrian army from the borders of the Idlib de-escalation zone, moreover, they are trying to act against the Russian contingent," he said at a press conference in Moscow.
"Therefore, Russia unequivocally confirms the need to fully implement the agreement between Presidents Putin and Erdogan to isolate terrorists, first of all the terrorists of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (banned in the Russian Federation), no matter what new clothes they try to dress up in. And with the ultimate goal of suppressing these terrorist groups," Lavrov stressed.
The Russian minister added that the Russian Federation is guided by this approach. "And the sooner it is done, the better. In practice, we will insist on the full implementation of the existing agreements," Lavrov said.
"As for the presence of foreign armed forces and military units on the territory of the SAR, as you know, resolution 2254, which was adopted unanimously by the UN Security Council and which no one canceled, clearly confirms the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the SAR," the minister said.
He recalled that in accordance with this resolution, only the armed forces of those countries that were invited by the legitimate government of Syria have the right to be on the territory of this country.
