Baku. October 2. INTERFAX-AZERBAIJAN - Turkey and Russia play a very important role in the future development of the South Caucasus and ensuring stability, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said.
"Yes, Turkey has supported us from the very beginning. We are very grateful to the Turkish government for the political and moral support from the first days of the war (in Nagorno-Karabakh - IF). Now, after the end of the war, Turkey, including Russia, play a very important role in the future regional development and stability," Aliyev said in an interview with the Spanish agency EFE, answering the question whether the war has changed the balance of power in the region.
The Head of State recalled that Russia and Turkey have established a joint monitoring center in the Aghdam district.
"At the same time, Russian peacekeepers are taking measures to maintain peace in places where the Armenian population lives. Thus, new realities have already appeared. Every country should take into account these realities," the President said.
Aliyev also stressed that "the balance of power between Azerbaijan and Armenia changed many years ago." "We knew our potential, Armenia's potential. Perhaps the Armenian government failed to really assess that Armenia has no chance before Azerbaijan, and it will face serious difficulties if it does not liberate the occupied territories peacefully," he said.
"I think that today Turkey and Russia, as two neighbors of Azerbaijan - by the way, one of the countries is Armenia's neighbor - play a very important role in stability, security and future development," Aliyev said.
