North Korea has tested a new anti-aircraft missile, the state news Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA) reported on October 1.
It is noted that the tests took place on September 30.
"The National Defense Academy conducted test firing in order to check the operability of the launch pad, detector and combat vehicle, as well as the comprehensive combat characteristics of the newly developed anti-aircraft missile," the text says.
The North Korean defense ministry called the characteristics of the new missile amazing. According to the military, the missile had significantly increased speed, guidance accuracy, as well as the range of hitting an air target. In addition, such important technologies as dual control have been introduced.
On September 29, North Korea tested a new type of hypersonic missile, the hWasong-8.
In turn, the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea reported that the development of hypersonic missiles by the DPRK is at an early stage and does not pose any threats yet.
At the same time, Seoul expressed concern about the appearance of hypersonic weapons in the DPRK. According to experts, North Korea could conduct tests of a hypersonic glide controlled unit (Hypersonic Glide Vehicle, HGV).
On September 30, the UN Security Council included in the agenda of its meeting a discussion of the situation with the recent missile launches by North Korea. It was noted that the meeting was closed.
On the same day, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un rejected the United States' offer of dialogue. According to him, such appeals are nothing more than a facade with which the Americans intend to "cover up their hostile actions."
