Russia is tracking information about North Korea's missile launches. The situation around the launches affects the prospects for a dialogue on nuclear disarmament of the peninsula. This was announced to journalists on September 29 by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"We are monitoring all the information that comes from different sources on this topic. We correlate it, of course, with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, which introduced a fairly tough sanctions regime against the DPRK and defined requirements for acceptable parameters for the development of military capabilities, including in the missile sphere of the DPRK," Ryabkov said.
He noted that Russia is against any attempts to use the DPRK's missile launches to further escalate the situation in the region. The Foreign Ministry urged to start a dialogue with the DPRK as soon as possible.
"What is happening, in our opinion, is projected on the prospects of resuming dialogue in the interests of solving the problem of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. The main thing now is not to allow steps that would interfere with this political process," the deputy minister said.
Earlier on Wednesday, North Korea tested a new type of hypersonic missile, the hWasong-8. As reported by the media, South Korean and American intelligence agencies are analyzing the launch for more information.
The Committee of the Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Korea expressed the opinion that the development of hypersonic missile technologies by the DPRK is at an early stage, so such weapons do not pose a danger yet.
A day earlier it was reported that North Korea fired an unidentified projectile towards the Sea of Japan. The Japanese government has shared suspicions that we are talking about a ballistic missile.
The British Foreign Ministry condemned North Korea's actions after the missile launch. In a statement issued on September 28, the ministry calls on Pyongyang to return to the negotiating table in order to resume dialogue on a nuclear settlement on the Korean peninsula.
The US condemned the launch, calling it a violation of UN Security Council resolutions, which poses a threat to the region and the international community. In addition, the US administration called on official Pyongyang to engage in dialogue.
