MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. The hypersonic missile tested in the United States on Monday, whose speed is five times the speed of sound, is not a breakthrough model of weapons. This opinion was expressed by military experts interviewed by TASS.
Ivan Konovalov, Development Director of the Foundation for the Promotion of Technologies of the XXI Century, said in an interview with TASS that the test results of the latest American hypersonic missile cannot be considered completely reliable. "These tests are not credible: at first, the Americans said that they needed much more time, there were a number of unsuccessfully completed tests. Now they announce the completion of the design and creation of these weapons, as well as the conduct of full tests," Konovalov said.
According to him, the new American missile "will not become a breakthrough model of weapons." "The characteristics declared by the Americans do not exceed what is declared by the Russian Federation," Konovalov informed.
As the expert noted, Russia has the competencies to counteract the new American missile. "The latest Russian air defense systems are an excellent counterargument for this weapon," Konovalov summed up.
Viktor Murakhovsky, editor-in-chief of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine, stressed in an interview with TASS that the stage of development of hypersonic weapons achieved by the Americans was passed by the Soviet Union. "Judging by what the Americans have published, they have tested a hypersonic cruise missile demonstrator capable of reaching speeds of up to five Mach [up to five Mach numbers]. This is the stage that the Soviet Union passed when it created the product 4202, a hypersonic unit," the expert said.
