Washington. September 28. INTERFAX - The DPRK missile launch does not pose an immediate threat to the US military, the country's territory or its allies, the Indo-Pacific Command of the US Armed Forces (INDOPACOM) said.
According to the statement, the US Indo-Pacific Command is aware of the missile launch and is "closely consulting" with allies.
According to the US military, "this event (the launch of the missile - IF) does not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory or to our allies."
Meanwhile, the statement notes that the missile launch "highlights the destabilizing impact" of North Korea's illegal weapons program.
"The US commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea and Japan remains unbreakable," the military added.
Earlier, North Korea's missile launch was condemned by the US State Department.
"The United States condemns the DPRK missile launch," the ministry said in a statement.
It notes that "this launch is a violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions and poses a threat to the DPRK's neighbors and the international community."
"We remain committed to a diplomatic approach in relations with the DPRK, and we call on it to engage in dialogue," the State Department stressed.
According to the South Korean military, North Korea launched at least one missile towards the Sea of Japan on Tuesday.
It is noted that the launch was carried out around 6:40 am (00:40 Moscow time).
The intelligence agencies of South Korea and the United States are analyzing the launch for more information.
Meanwhile, Japanese media, citing the government, report that the DPRK allegedly launched a ballistic missile. It is also reported that the projectile fell outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan.
If it is confirmed that the projectile is a ballistic missile, it will be the third such launch this year, as well as the sixth test of the weapon.
