VLADIVOSTOK, 27 Sep-RIA Novosti. The military of Russia and Mongolia conducted the first joint training within the framework of the Selenga-2021 exercise at the Doityn Am Mongolian training ground, the press service of the Eastern Military District reports.
The joint headquarters of the exercise management agreed on common control signals for both sides. Motorized rifle and tank units worked out a joint offensive with deployment in a combat line with a set speed of movement of combat vehicles.
Also, within the framework of the exercises, competitions were held in national and traditional sports: Mongolian national wrestling, football, volleyball, shooting from a Makarov pistol and a paramilitary relay race. Those who wished tried their hand at archery and throwing special objects made of bones for accuracy. The command decided to create joint teams, which included military personnel of both countries.
After the competition, the song and dance ensemble of the Ministry of Defense of Mongolia performed a concert on the field stage of the Doityn Am training ground.
The military exercises "Selenga-2021" are held in difficult climatic conditions of the mountain-steppe area. From the Russian side, it involves units of the combined arms association of the VVO, stationed in the Republic of Buryatia. In total, up to 1.5 thousand servicemen take part in the exercise and more than 200 units of combat and special equipment are involved.
"Selenga" has been held annually since 2008. Initially, tactical exercises with live shooting were held, they were called " Darkhan "(translated from Mongolian - "Builder"). In 2011, the maneuvers were renamed after the name of the river originating in Mongolia, flowing through the territory of Buryatia and flowing into Lake Baikal, and received an anti-terrorist orientation.
