Hong Kong. September 26. INTERFAX-Statements by the sister of North Korean leader Kim Yo Jong about the possibility of organizing a summit between South Korea and the DPRK under certain conditions are of great importance, the Yonhap news agency reported on Sunday, citing a statement by the South Korean Ministry of Unification Affairs.
"Our assessment is that the statement about the possibility for the North (DPRK - IF) to consistently deal with various issues to improve inter-Korean relations through constructive discussions... it is filled with a special meaning, " the ministry said.
"Taking into account such discussions, it is important to have a stable and stable communication system between the two Koreas; first of all, it is necessary to quickly restore inter-Korean communication lines," the ministry noted.
According to Yonhap, on the eve of Kim Yo Jong, she said that Pyongyang could announce the official end of the Korean War and discuss holding an inter-Korean summit if South Korea treats the DPRK "with justice" and mutual respect.
A source in the presidential administration of South Korea on condition of anonymity said that the administration is carefully studying the words of Kim Yo Jong. However, there has not yet been an official response from the president's office to Kim Yo Jong's statements.
Earlier, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, speaking at the UN General Assembly, called for efforts to officially end the 1950-53 Korean War. According to him, the announcement of the official end of the Korean War will help advance the process of denuclearization of the DPRK.
