Moscow. September 24. INTERFAX-The Kremlin commented on possible new US sanctions against Russia, noting that this would be the worst-case scenario for the development of bilateral relations and would significantly destroy the spirit of the Geneva talks between the leaders of the two countries.
"Of course, this would be the worst scenario for the development of our relations, of course, it would significantly destroy the spirit of Geneva and even those modest hopes for establishing, for restoring some kind of substantive dialogue that appeared after Geneva," Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, told reporters.
So he commented on the possibility of tightening sanctions against Russia by the United States.
Peskov did not predict whether new sanctions will be imposed, noting that this is not the Kremlin's business. "It is obvious that the various sanctions aspirations of American congressmen are not weakening, but this bill still has to go through several iterations and the question will continue to be whether the administration will listen to these recommendations, I mean regarding sanctions," the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation said.
Peskov added: "We will watch together with you, we can't say anything yet."
As reported, US lawmakers have included amendments to the draft law on the defense budget for 2022 concerning new sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Russia's sovereign debt, as well as a number of Russian representatives.
The list of Russians charged with "human rights violations" includes Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Health Minister Mikhail Murashko, Chairman of the Russian Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, editor-in-chief of the Russia Today TV channel Margarita Simonyan and a number of others.
