Hong Kong. September 24. INTERFAX-The adoption of a declaration on the official end of the Korean War is a premature step and will not help resolve the existing differences, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the DPRK Lee Tae-sung.
"The issue of declaring an end to the war on the Korean peninsula has again arisen at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. (...) It is clear that ending the war is what needs to be done to create a mechanism for maintaining peace on the peninsula in the future. (...) But the real situation proves that the adoption of a declaration on the cessation of war is something premature," Lee Tae-sung said in a statement published by KCNA.
According to him, there is no guarantee that the adoption of the declaration, which has only a symbolic meaning, will lead to a rejection of the hostile attitude towards the DPRK.
He recalled the test launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles conducted by the United States in February and August of this year, and the US approval of the sale of billions of dollars worth of weapons to Japan and South Korea.
"We are also vigilantly following the recent decision of the United States to transfer technologies for creating a nuclear submarine with nuclear reactors to Australia," Lee Tae - sung said.
In his opinion, the basis of all the problems of the Korean peninsula is the hostile policy of the United States towards the DPRK.
"Let them declare the end of the war hundreds of times, but there will be no change until the political situation around us changes and the hostile policy of the United States changes," the deputy Foreign Minister of North Korea believes.
"All the facts prove that it is not yet time to proclaim the end of the war. It is necessary to understand that at the moment the declaration on the end of the war does not provide any assistance to the stability of the situation on the Korean peninsula and can be mistakenly used as a smoke screen to hide the hostile policy of the United States, " he said.
Lee Tae-sung added that the first priority for ensuring stability on the Korean peninsula is the rejection of double standards and hostile policies by the United States.
Earlier, South Korean President Moon Jae-in, speaking at the UN General Assembly, called for efforts to officially end the 1950-53 Korean War.
In his opinion, the announcement of the official end of the Korean War will help to advance the process of denuclearization of the DPRK.
"When the parties involved in the Korean War unite and declare the end of the war, I believe that we will be able to make irreversible progress in denuclearization and enter an era of complete peace," the South Korean president said.
The representative of the US Department of Defense, John Kirby, said that the United States is open to discussing the possibility of an official announcement of the end of the Korean War.
"We continue to strive to cooperate with the DPRK to resolve various issues, and we are open to discussing the possibility of declaring an end to the war," Kirby said at a press briefing.
