Washington. September 22. INTERFAX-The head of the Northern Command of the US Armed Forces (NORAD), General Glen Vanherk, believes that Russia remains the main military threat to the United States.
"Russia today is the main military threat to the Motherland. This is not China, this is Russia, " Vanherk told Air Force Magazine.
In his opinion, although China is a "long-term existential threat" to the United States, nevertheless, Russia poses a greater threat in military terms.
"In the kinetic aspect - submarines, bombers, cruise missiles, such capabilities - Russia is the main military threat," Vanherk said.
At the same time, the general called Russia and China " equal in the non-kinetic aspect-cyberspace."
"Both of them should be feared," the head of NORAD added.
Earlier, the general spoke at a conference organized by the US Air Force Association.
Here, he called ballistic missiles another form of deterrence along with nuclear weapons.
Vanherk also stressed the importance of investing resources in improving America's Arctic capabilities.
"To compete in the Arctic, in this strategic environment, you must be persistent. You must be present there. (...) The important thing is, do you use resources to solve this problem? "- he said.
