Hong Kong. September 18. INTERFAX-Beijing for the second time in a month held naval and air exercises in the territory to the southwest of Taiwan, Bloomberg reports, citing the Command of the eastern Theater of the People's Liberation Army of China.
The command explained that the purpose of the exercises held on Friday is "to improve the integrated operational potential in the territory to the southwest of Taiwan."
The Chinese army warned that such exercises in the future "will be held regularly" due to the tense situation in the Taiwan Strait and the need to maintain the security of sovereignty.
As reported, the People's Liberation Army of China in mid-August also conducted military exercises with live firing in a number of areas near the south-western and south-eastern coast of the island of Taiwan.
The Taiwan issue arose in 1949, when the Communist People's Republic of China was proclaimed, and part of the Kuomintang Party settled on the island of Taiwan. Beijing insists on the "one-China principle", according to which both the PRC and the Republic of China on Taiwan cannot be recognized at the same time. At the same time, almost all major states have unofficial cultural and economic offices of Taipei.
