Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov on Friday, September 17, reacted to the Pentagon's recognition of an erroneous strike on people from a drone at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan.
According to him, there were very serious doubts about the effectiveness of the strategic and operational decisions taken by the United States after "continuous mistakes" in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Afghanistan.
"Given the high level of armament of the United States and their passion for the use of force, this is extremely dangerous," the senator stressed in his Telegram channel.
On August 27, the central command of the US armed forces reported that the US military launched an air strike in the province of Nangarhar, the target of the attack was IS militants (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
On August 30, the representative of UNICEF (UN Children's Fund) in Kabul, Gervais de Lis, as a result of a missile strike by the US armed forces on the capital of Afghanistan a day earlier, seven children were killed. On the same day after the US strike, a strict curfew was imposed in Kabul. Later, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said that the US administration could not confirm this information.
However, on September 11, the United States Department of Defense clarified that the airstrike carried out by US military forces on August 29 in Kabul helped prevent the imminent threat of a repeat attack on the airport. Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stressed that the central command is still evaluating the results of the strike.
The US strikes were preceded by a series of explosions that occurred in Kabul on August 26, which killed almost 200 people. At the same time, among the victims there are American servicemen, two British citizens and a child of a citizen of the kingdom. According to the Pentagon, ISIS terrorists may be involved in the attacks.
Then American President Joe Biden made a speech, during which he promised to "track down" the perpetrators of the attack and "make them pay" for what they had done. In addition, the head of the White House said that he holds himself responsible for what happened.
The situation in Afghanistan worsened in May 2021 after the start of the withdrawal of US troops who had been in the country since 2001. The militants of the Taliban movement (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation) launched an offensive on major cities of the country and entered Kabul on August 15, declaring the end of the war.
