Dushanbe. September 17. INTERFAX-The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have agreed to develop cooperation in the field of defense, according to a joint declaration adopted at a meeting of the Council of Heads of member states of the organization.
"The member states will further develop cooperation in the field of defense, including on training personnel and increasing the potential of the armed forces of the parties, in the interests of strengthening confidence-building measures, ensuring peace and regional stability, countering security challenges and threats, creating favorable conditions for the sustainable development of the SCO," the document says.
The members of the organization also called for "promoting cooperation with the UN in the field of peacekeeping activities" and exchanging experience in the relevant field.
