TSAMTO, September 17. The US State Department has approved the provision of services to Saudi Arabia for the maintenance of military equipment in the amount of $ 500 million, RIA Novosti reports, citing the US Department of Defense.
According to the agency, this is the first major defense contract with the Kingdom during the presidency of Joe Biden, whose administration has repeatedly criticized the Saudi authorities for the human rights situation and involvement in the civil war in neighboring Yemen.
"The State Department has issued a determination approving a possible foreign military deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the continuation of technical support services and the supply of related equipment at an estimated cost of $ 500 million," the Ministry of Defense said in a release.
The State Department sent a notification about the deal to the US Congress.
