London. September 17. INTERFAX-Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will propose to his British counterpart Boris Johnson to conclude an agreement with the European Union in the field of defense and security, The Times reports, citing informed sources.
According to them, Johnson will be offered a pact with the European Union on cooperation in the field of defense and security today during a meeting with Rutte in Downing Street.
As the interlocutors of the publication noted, the Europeans believe that the British government is more open to the idea of cooperation with the EU in the field of defense and security after the withdrawal of the US military from Afghanistan.
"Afghanistan is a catalyst for further discussion of European defense cooperation, preferably with the participation of the UK," the diplomatic source said.
"After Brexit, few European leaders kept in touch with Johnson. It is important to look at geopolitics without division, and there is a need to work with the UK, " he added.
