MOSCOW, 17 Sep-RIA Novosti. An ultra-long-range rifle of the caliber of NATO countries, capable of hitting targets in real combat conditions at a range of 2.5-3 kilometers, is being created in Russia, the chief designer of the enterprise developing this weapon ORSIS (part of the Industrial Technologies group of companies)said in an interview with RIA Novosti Maxim Baymetov.

"We decided to go even further: to create a large-caliber rifle for the universal NATO cartridge 50 bmg (12.7 × 99 mm), which is used in a wide range of weapons, from rifles and up to machine guns. This rifle will be able to shoot at a record distance of 2.5-3 kilometers, " he said.

Baymetov noted that the release of this rifle for testing is scheduled for the beginning of 2022. According to him, these weapons are being created primarily for export promotion, but Russian law enforcement agencies are already interested in this project.

The interlocutor of the agency stressed that we are talking about a" real " combat weapon that will be able to hit targets at such ranges not in isolated cases when it is necessary to set a record, but on a regular basis.

"Here, after all, we are talking about shooting to set records, and not performing real combat tasks. The parameters we have stated assume that snipers will be able to hit targets at a distance of about 2.5 kilometers with accurate shooting, and this will be the rule, not the exception. Today, no one is producing military weapons of this class in Russia yet, " Baymetov explained.

For comparison, the interlocutor gave an example of the most popular development of ORSIS - the T-5000 high-precision rifle, whose range of destruction is 1.6 kilometers.

Earlier in 2020, Lobaev Arms CEO Vladislav Lobaev told RIA Novosti about the creation of a unique DXL-5 sniper rifle capable of hitting targets at a maximum range of seven kilometers.

The Promtechnologiya company (ORSIS brand) is a developer and manufacturer of the ORSIS T-5000 high-precision rifle, on the basis of which the Precision sniper complex was created. Its various modifications are in service with the FSO, Rosgvardiya and the security service of the President of the Russian Federation.
