MOSCOW, 16 Sep-RIA Novosti. The CSTO leaders approved at a session in Dushanbe a plan to equip the Collective Rapid Reaction Forces with modern weapons, follows from the text of the declaration adopted at the end of the summit.
They also signed an agreement providing for the creation of a military police, a military investigation, a military prosecutor's office and courts.
The powers of the chief of the CSTO joint Staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, were extended for three years.
In addition, the participants of the organization, against the background of the situation in Afghanistan, clarified the plan for the rapid deployment of the contingent in Central Asia. They promised to take measures to protect the southern borders.
The CSTO includes Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.
The next session of the Collective Security Council will be held at the end of this year in Yerevan.
