The White House did not confirm the reports of the American press that the United States could allegedly supply Ukraine with an Iron Dome missile defense system. This was stated on September 15 during a briefing by a representative of the US administration, Jennifer Psaki.
"I need to clarify this with my colleagues," the White House press secretary said during the broadcast on Twitter. According to Psaki, the provision of additional assistance was announced at a meeting of the presidents of the United States and Ukraine, Joe Biden and Vladimir Zelensky.
Earlier this day, Alexey Arestovich, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, press secretary of the Kiev delegation to the contact group on Donbass, said that the Iron Dome system would help protect critical infrastructure facilities and increase the combat capability of the army.
As the Politico newspaper reported on September 14, a number of members of the US Congress included an amendment in the defense bill for 2022 that will "put pressure" on the US president to transfer a number of air and missile defense systems to the Ukrainian side. We are also talking about the "Iron Dome" battery.
As military expert Vladislav Shurygin told Izvestia, the Iron Dome will not be able to protect the country in the event of an air and space attack. According to him, the system is designed to intercept fairly old and not very advanced missiles of multiple rocket launchers of the Grad type or ballistic missiles of the Scud type.
On August 31, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, at a meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, said that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new package of military assistance worth $60 million, and also sign a framework agreement on reforms necessary for Ukraine to become a member of NATO.
The package will also include additional Javelin anti-tank systems and other weapons.
