TASS, September 15. /TASS/. The closing ceremony of the Russian-Belarusian strategic exercises "West-2021" was held at the Mulino training ground in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported to journalists on Wednesday in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"The Zapad-2021 exercise showed that we can create powerful interspecific groups in a short time, plan military operations in any direction, stop any aggression, bring any enemy to reason and sober up with a decisive blow," Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said at the closing ceremony.
He also noted that during the exercises, the servicemen of the united group demonstrated all the skills they acquired during the planned combat training classes during the school year, and demonstrated close cooperation on tasks on the battlefield.
The events were attended by servicemen of military units and divisions of the Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, representatives of the leadership headquarters and personnel of military contingents of the armed forces of Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia, as well as a representative of the military delegation of Sri Lanka.
According to the results of the exercises, the most distinguished servicemen were rewarded with departmental awards of the Russian Defense Ministry.
Exercise "West-2021"
Strategic exercises of the armed forces of Russia and Belarus are held every two years. Zapad-2021 is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the two countries this year. The practical actions of the troops (forces) took place from September 10 to 16, 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships are involved in the exercises.
The maximum number of personnel involved in the exercises of military units subject to the Vienna Document of 2011 in the territory of the Russian Federation does not exceed 6,400 military personnel. The return of the military authorities and troops to the points of permanent deployment after participating in the exercises is planned until mid-October.
