A joint meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Secretaries of the CSTO Security Councils was held in Dushanbe. On the Russian side, it was attended by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, as well as Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
The participants discussed the military-political situation in the CSTO collective security regions, as well as the current activities and future plans of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Yevgeny Anoshin, an official representative of the Russian Security Council staff, told the RG correspondent that special attention was paid to the situation around Afghanistan and responding to security challenges caused by a possible aggravation of the terrorist threat. In particular, measures are planned to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border and conduct special command and staff military exercises. Also, a special anti-drug operation "Channel" and an interstate operation to counter illegal migration "Illegal"will be carried out on the southern borders of the CSTO.
The participants of the meeting also agreed to strengthen cooperation between the special services to identify and neutralize extremist and terrorist cells. They also discussed cooperation mechanisms to counter the subversive propaganda of terrorist organizations in cyberspace. In addition, it was proposed to strengthen cooperation on the Afghan issue between the CSTO and the SCO.
