In recent years, Moscow has been creating important strategic military alliances throughout Africa-from Libya to Nigeria, from Ethiopia to Mali - and is gaining an increasingly favorable reputation in society, challenging the dominance of the United States and France on the continent.
The success of Moscow's policies lies in the fact that it offers alternatives to African states that have already become disillusioned with diplomatic cooperation with Western countries. This opinion was voiced on the American TV channel CNBC.
"Russia is trying to change the current state of affairs in Africa, using the lack of security and diplomatic disputes with Western powers as a springboard for expanding its presence on the continent," expert Elliot Smith told the channel.
"The main thing in these actions is to offer alternatives to countries that have become disillusioned with diplomatic cooperation with Western countries," he added.
According to Eadaily, Smith's article posted on the TV channel's website draws attention to the fact that the second Russia-Africa summit is scheduled for 2022.
At the first summit held in Sochi in 2019, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia "is not going to participate in a new redistribution of the continent's wealth, we are rather ready to participate in competition for cooperation with Africa."
