Washington. September 11. INTERFAX-Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov declares the readiness of the Russian side to resume bilateral dialogue with the United States on anti-terrorism.
His comment on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks was distributed by the Russian Embassy in the United States on Saturday.
"There are many examples in the history of Russian-American relations when, thanks to the effective interaction of special services, it was possible to prevent major attacks and the death of innocent citizens. In particular, we are grateful to our colleagues for the valuable information that helped prevent terrorist attacks in St. Petersburg in 2017 and 2019, " Antonov said.
He expressed the hope that " such contacts will only be strengthened, and over time they will be supplemented by useful discussions within the framework of the bilateral dialogue on anti-terrorism, carried out under the auspices of the foreign ministries in 2018-2019."
"The Russian side is ready to revive the work of this format. This is our natural priority. We must put aside all contradictions and disputes, and cooperate for the benefit of the security and well-being of not only our states, but also of all mankind. The status of permanent members of the UN Security Council obliges to this, " the Russian ambassador stressed.
