NATO is closely monitoring the strategic Russian-Belarusian exercises "West-2021" and calls on Moscow and Minsk to act transparently and predictably.
This is stated in a statement by the official representative of the alliance, Oana Lungescu, for the German media group Funke.
"NATO is following the West-2021 very closely. All countries have the right to conduct exercises of their armed forces, but they must also comply with their transparency obligations… We call on Russia and Belarus to act predictably and transparently in accordance with their international obligations," she said.
According to Lungescu, this is necessary "to reduce risks, prevent accidents or incidents when military activity increases on our borders."
She also added that NATO has not yet been invited to observe the "West-2021", " despite the fact that observation is mandatory if more than 13 thousand people participate in the exercises," writes Eadaily.
