The Kalashnikov Group of Companies (GC) is working on new modifications of the AK-12 line of submachine guns. Designers are preparing an improved AK-12SP automatic machine. The weapon will receive new elements that increase ergonomics, but will retain a proven design. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of Kalashnikov.
The AK-12SP is being developed on an initiative basis. The press service noted that the revision of the machine did not affect the nodes "that form the basis of the reliability of the AK". At the same time, the modernization has increased the efficiency of the machine.
The designers added a number of elements for the convenience of the shooter. So, the AK-12SP butt received a folding cheek, which allows you to fix the head when using an optical sight. Also, the machine was equipped with a two-way fuse-a translator of fire modes, which allows both right-handed and left-handed people to use the AK-12SP equally conveniently.
The AK-12SP will receive Picatinny rail interfaces and M-Lok, which will facilitate the installation of alternative sights and additional accessories. Otherwise, the upgraded machine is similar to the base model. The AK-12SP was first demonstrated at the Army-2021 forum. The weight of the new product without a store and accessories is 3.6 kilograms. The initial velocity of the bullet is 900 meters per second, the rate of fire is 600-700 rounds per minute. These indicators are comparable to the AK-12, which is due to the general mechanism.
Now Kalashnikov is producing a modernized AK-12, which was finalized following the results of combined-arms operation. Earlier, representatives of the Civil Code told about the features of the modernized machine gun, which can be configured for the anthropometric parameters of each serviceman.
