Russian-Indian consultations on security issues were held on Wednesday in the capital of India. Representatives of a number of Russian and Indian ministries and departments took part in the consultations. The Russian delegation was headed by the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, who arrived in New Delhi at the invitation of the Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Ajit Dowal.
According to the official representative of the Security Council staff Yevgeny Anoshin, during the consultations Patrushev and Doual discussed issues of deepening bilateral cooperation in the field of security with an emphasis on further cooperation on the anti-terrorist track, as well as the fight against illegal migration and drug trafficking. Special attention was paid to the issues of intensifying joint work between the special services and military departments of Russia and India.
In addition, following a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 24, an exchange of views on the military-political and socio-economic situation in Afghanistan took place. According to the official representative of the Security Council staff, the humanitarian and migration problems in this country, as well as the prospects for Russian-Indian cooperation to launch a peaceful settlement process based on the inter-Afghan dialogue were considered separately.
In addition, Patrushev and his Indian counterpart agreed to coordinate the approaches of Russia and India to work in the Afghan direction in multilateral formats. The representatives of Moscow and New Delhi stressed the importance of determining the parameters of the future state structure of Afghanistan by the Afghans themselves, as well as the need to prevent the escalation of violence, social, ethnic and confessional contradictions in the country.
