Moscow. September 8. INTERFAX-Negotiations with the regime in Afghanistan, except for contacts through the Russian Embassy in this country, are not planned yet, said the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
During a conversation with journalists on Wednesday, the press secretary was reminded that a government was formed earlier in Afghanistan. In this regard, Peskov was asked in "what format it is planned to conduct negotiations with the Taliban (the organization is banned in Russia - IF) and who will conduct this dialogue: military or diplomats."
"Contacts through our embassy are carried out in Kabul. Those contacts that are necessary to ensure the security of our diplomats, on other technical issues. No other negotiations are planned yet. Now Russia, like the vast majority of countries in the world, will very closely monitor the steps that this new government will take, " Peskov said.
He was asked whether Russia sees a threat to its security from the Taliban (the organization is banned in the Russian Federation-IF).
"A threat can potentially arise from Afghanistan. We have repeatedly talked about this. This is both drug trafficking and the infiltration of terrorist groups there, " Peskov said.
They clarified with him what the issue of recognition of the new government of Afghanistan depends on and what will influence the Russian position in resolving this issue.
