TSAMTO, September 6. A representative of the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems confirmed that the Serbian authorities are negotiating with Israel on the acquisition of anti-tank guided missiles "Spike".
According to the regional director of Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Al Zaher, in Serbia, the Israeli company is working together with Jugoimport-SDPR to promote the Spike LR2 ATGM. If the Jugoimport-SDPR project is completed successfully, the Israeli company is ready to offer other solutions. Among them are the Spike ER and Spike NLOS missiles, which are distinguished by a longer launch range. The statement made on the sidelines of the Kecskemet International Airshow held in Hungary was posted on the website of the Serbian TV company RTS.
"Spike-LR2" is a multi-purpose rocket of the 5th generation, the launch of which can be carried out both in the "shot and forget" and "shot and accompany"mode. The mass of the missile is 13 kg. The ATGM is equipped with a dual-mode electron-optical (color CCD/uncooled thermal imaging), tandem anti-tank cumulative or multi-purpose warhead. The Spike-LR2 can be launched from combat vehicles, boats, helicopters, as well as a portable launcher. The information exchange between the rocket and the operator is carried out via a fiber-optic cable or a radio channel. It provides the possibility of re-targeting the ammunition in flight, hitting objects that are out of sight by their coordinates. The firing range of the Spike-LR2 is 5.5 km when launched from ground-based launchers and up to 10 km when launched from a helicopter (using a radio channel).
ATGM "Spike" are in service with neighboring Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia.
