The US authorities will be forced to increase cooperation with Russia, China and Pakistan in collecting intelligence data concerning what is happening in Afghanistan and possible terrorist threats.
This opinion was expressed on the air of the CBS TV channel by former deputy Director of National Intelligence of the United States Susan Gordon.
She acknowledged that international terrorist groups may become more active in Afghanistan and try to use the country for their own purposes. "This should be a concern," Gordon said.
"I think that now that we do not have the advantage of having a presence in Afghanistan and because of this, intelligence gathering will not be so effective, the Biden administration will have to double its efforts in the field of partnership in the region. And we will have to rely on atypical partners, such as Russia, China and Pakistan, to do this work in the region, to try to exert a stabilizing influence, this is necessary to prevent a new growth of threats," she stressed.
Gordon stated that maintaining a military presence in Afghanistan allowed the United States to identify "people who have information" in the country and work with them. According to her, this made it possible to obtain a significant part of the intelligence data.
She admitted, Eadaily quotes her, that the American intelligence services, apparently, could not predict with sufficient accuracy how quickly events in the country would develop.
