Moscow. September 4. INTERFAX-High-ranking representatives of Russia and Germany exchanged views on security issues, including the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and the fight against terrorism.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday that on September 3, the 15th plenary meeting of the Russian-German high-level interdepartmental Working Group on Security Policy (HLG) was held in Berlin, chaired by First Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Titov and State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Miguel Berger.

"An open and substantive exchange of views was held on the topic of cooperation between Russia and Germany in the field of ensuring global security and regional stability. Topical issues of the international agenda were discussed, " the Russian Foreign Ministry informs, noting that the discussion was held in the context of the talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel held in Moscow on August 20.
According to the report, attention was also paid to practical issues of bilateral Russian-German relations. "The Russian side confirmed the existence of a significant potential for their progressive development in all areas on the basis of respect for sovereignty and non - interference in internal affairs," the Foreign Ministry notes.
The Foreign Ministry notes that within the framework of the meeting, three subgroups met: on combating terrorism, organized crime and the drug threat, on strategic (military-political) issues, as well as on arms control and non-proliferation of WMD, which presented reports on the work carried out during the reporting period during the plenary session.
A meeting in the format of a bilateral "negotiation mechanism" on cybersecurity issues agreed in 2020 was also held on the sidelines of the HLWG meeting.
