Ukraine expects to receive a new batch of Javelin anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs) from the United States this year. This was announced on Saturday, September 4, by the country's Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
"The top political leadership of the United States has assured President Vladimir Zelensky that it will continue to support the Ukrainian people and the defense capability of our state. Already this year, Ukraine will receive a batch of Javelin armor-piercing systems, "he said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
The head of the department also did not rule out the possibility of agreeing with the United States on the supply of other types of defensive lethal and non-lethal equipment.
"For obvious reasons, I cannot disclose the details," he added.
On September 1, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and American leader Joe Biden held talks in the Oval Office of the White House. The meeting of the leaders lasted more than two hours and ended without a final joint press conference.
During the meeting with the Ukrainian leader, the host of the White House once again stated that the United States continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine against the background of the threat that allegedly comes from Russia. He added that the United States supports Kiev's desire to join NATO.
A day earlier, the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, at a meeting with Zelensky, said that the United States would provide Ukraine with a new package of military assistance worth $60 million, and also sign a framework agreement on reforms necessary for Ukraine to become a member of NATO. Military assistance also involves the supply of Javelin.
