The US Department of Defense has denied reports about the reduction of the American contingent in Syria.
"It's not like that. The parameters of our mission in Syria remain the same. We called this morning to make sure of this, " RIA Novosti quoted a Pentagon spokesman as saying.
As the agency notes, earlier a number of Iranian media reported that American troops had left their three bases in the SAR.
On September 1, the Telegram channel Ateo Breaking reported that Iran fired at an American military base in Syria. It was noted that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is responsible for the attack. Thus, the formation allegedly gave a signal to the Americans about the need to withdraw the contingent from the Arab republic.
In early August, the Russian Embassy in Washington noted that US military personnel do not have legal grounds to stay in Syria.
After the withdrawal of American troops from the SAR in the fall of 2019, about 900 US servicemen remained in the republic.
The armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. In 2017, the victory over the terrorist group "Islamic State" (banned in the Russian Federation) in Syria and Iraq was announced. In some parts of the country, the cleansing of militants continues.
