Kiev. August 31. INTERFAX-UKRAINE-The Defense Ministers of Ukraine and the United States, Andriy Taran and Lloyd Austin, signed an agreement on the strategic foundations of the defense partnership in Washington on Tuesday.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called this agreement "a new stage in cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the defense sphere."
"It is very important for us to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine from the United States, to obtain membership in NATO and to jointly counter the aggression of the Russian Federation," he wrote on Twitter.
The heads of the military departments also signed an intergovernmental agreement on projects in the field of research, development, testing and evaluation.
According to the website of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, international legal bases are being built for concluding contracts for the implementation of joint research and development work in the defense sector.
In particular, conditions are being created for the introduction of advanced defense technologies, the launch of projects in the field of modernization of weapons and military equipment with the involvement of investments from the American side.
In addition, the provisions of the agreement allow testing of weapons and military equipment, research work, and evaluating their effectiveness using equipment and technologies that are not available in Ukraine. Ukrainian research institutions will be able to be involved in the implementation of projects of the American side.
