Washington. August 31. INTERFAX-Militants of the Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation) will not be able to use for military purposes the abandoned American military equipment at the Kabul airport, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said.
"We have done everything to make it impossible to use the military equipment left at the airport. This also applies to aircraft, military vehicles, " he said on CNN.
"They (the militants - IF) can study anything they want. They can look (at the aircraft-IF), go around, but they will not be able to fly on them. They won't be able to use them. We made it so that all this could not be used for military purposes, " Kirby added.
According to him, only a few fire trucks and loaders remain in working condition at the airport, which can still be used, this is necessary for the continuation of the airport's work.
Earlier, the US military command warned that some of their equipment and weapons would not be exported, but simply destroyed at the airport. The United States took this step so that there would be more space in military transport planes for civilians leaving Kabul.
In particular, we are talking about seven military transport helicopters CH-46, which the State Department used to evacuate its personnel. These helicopters are now unusable.
In turn, the head of the Central Command of the US Armed Forces, Frank McKenzie, said that American servicemen "made 27 army Humvee all-terrain vehicles and 73 aircraft inactive".
As reported, the Taliban movement, nevertheless, got American weapons worth several tens of billions of dollars. These weapons were handed over to the Taliban by the soldiers of the Afghan army during August. In particular, we are talking about small arms, armored vehicles and even American helicopters that are still able to fly. In addition, some of the Taliban fighters changed into American military uniforms, which were originally intended for Afghan servicemen.
On the eve of the former US President Donald Trump, commenting on the withdrawal of the US military contingent from Afghanistan, said that the administration of the current American leader Joe Biden committed it in the most incompetent way. He noted that "it is necessary to request the immediate return of all (military - IF) equipment to the United States, for which we spent $85 billion."
"If it is not returned, we must either enter (Afghanistan - IF), demonstrating a significant military force, and take it, or at least bomb it to hell," Trump added.
On August 31, Biden officially announced the end of the 20-year war between the United States and its NATO allies in Afghanistan, which they waged under the pretext of fighting terrorism.
The last US Air Force military transport plane left the Kabul airport on August 30, evacuating the remaining US military personnel who were guarding it and diplomats who worked at the air harbor, which remained their last stronghold in the Afghan capital.
