Yerevan. August 31. INTERFAX - Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is on a working visit to Moscow, discussed at a meeting with the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Stanislav Zasem the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reports.
"During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon the situation that has developed as a result of the penetration of the Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia. Both sides stressed the need for a speedy resolution of the situation and de-escalation, " the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Mirzoyan and Zas also "discussed in detail the dynamics of changes at the regional and international levels that have a direct impact on the vital interests of the CSTO member states," the Foreign Ministry reports.
In addition, it is noted that Mirzoyan stressed that during his upcoming presidency of the CSTO, Armenia will make active efforts aimed at developing and strengthening the organization's potential.
Zas assured that the CSTO secretariat will make all necessary efforts to promote the priorities of Armenia's chairmanship in the CSTO.
On May 12-13, Azerbaijani army units entered the territory of Armenia in the Syunik (Black Lake) and Gegharkunik regions. Armenia has appealed to the CSTO in this regard. Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that he was discussing with Moscow the issue of deploying Russian border guards in the border line with Azerbaijan from the east to the south of Armenia.
In early August, Armenian Defense Minister Arshak Karapetyan said at a meeting with CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zasem that Armenia will solve the problem of the violation of its borders by the Azerbaijani military by force if it is not possible to reach a peaceful solution.
