INTERFAX-The representative of the Afghan Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation), Zabiullah Mujahid, proclaimed the victory of the movement in the war against foreign forces, but at the same time noted that the Taliban intend to build good relations with the United States and other countries.
"Congratulations to Afghanistan! Victory belongs to all of us, " he told reporters, standing on the runway of the Kabul airport, which came under the control of the Taliban after the completion of the US evacuation operation.
Mujahid added: "We want good relations with the United States and the whole world. We welcome the establishment of good diplomatic relations with everyone."
On Tuesday night, the last group of US military personnel left the Kabul airport, ending 20 years of American military presence in Afghanistan.
US President Joe Biden thanked the US military for successfully conducting a large-scale operation to evacuate US citizens and allies from Kabul.
According to the White House, he noted that the military fulfilled its duty in carrying out "a dangerous retreat from Afghanistan in accordance with the schedule - in the early morning of August 31, Kabul time - without further casualties among Americans."
