Washington. August 31. INTERFAX-The Taliban movement (banned in the Russian Federation), which came to power in Afghanistan, must fulfill its obligations so that their regime is recognized as legitimate, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said.
"Legitimacy and any support must be earned," Blinken said in a video message after the completion of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
He noted that the Taliban will need to fulfill their obligations to ensure freedom of movement, respect the rights of women and minorities, and prevent the country from becoming a base for terrorism.
Such promises were made earlier by representatives of the Taliban movement.
"Our troops have left Afghanistan," Blinken said. "A new chapter of America's engagement with Afghanistan has begun."
He stressed that " the military mission has been completed, a new diplomatic mission has begun."
