On August 30, 87 retired generals and admirals signed an open letter to the Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Lloyd Austin and the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) Mark Milley demanding to resign.

The message was published on August 30 against the background of the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

"As a result of the hasty retreat, an unknown number of Americans found themselves in dangerous areas controlled by a brutal enemy, along with Afghans who supported American forces," the letter says.

Retired military personnel believe that Austin and Millie should resign for reasons of conscience, since they did not do everything to stop the "catastrophic consequences" of the withdrawal of troops.

"The consequences of this catastrophe are huge and will affect for decades," the authors of the letter believe.

According to them, Americans and Afghans can no longer safely move to evacuation points, and some of them, in fact, are hostages of the Taliban movement (recognized as a terrorist organization and banned in the Russian Federation).

In addition, as stated by retired generals and admirals, terrorists around the world can now freely enter the United States through the open border with Mexico. They may also be "insufficiently verified Afghan refugees," the military believes.

On the same day, the head of the United States Central Command, General Kenneth Mackenzie, confirmed in an interview with reporters the departure of the last US Air Force aircraft from Kabul and the completion of the 20-year American mission in Afghanistan.

Following this, a representative of the Taliban politburo said that the state is now completely under the control of the Taliban movement. In addition, Naim in his Twitter congratulated all residents of Afghanistan on the end of the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.

On August 17, Russian Senator Alexey Pushkov spoke about the blow to the American reputation against the background of the seizure of Afghanistan by the militants of the radical movement. The politician noted that, having experienced the realization of the defeat in Kabul, Washington will attempt to "take military revenge somewhere"as a step towards restoring the authority of the United States.

On August 14, The Hill concluded that the situation in Afghanistan has a negative impact on the global image of the United States. This was also confirmed by the interviewed experts.

The situation in Afghanistan escalated in May 2021 after the start of the withdrawal of American troops who had been in the country for the past 20 years.

On August 15, Taliban militants entered Kabul, then declared the "end of the war". On the same day, the President of the Islamic Republic, Ashraf Ghani, left the country.
