The Rocket and Space Corporation Energia plans to create a new returnable cargo spacecraft in the future on the basis of the advanced manned space ship "Eagle"being developed. This was announced in an interview with TASS by the general designer of the enterprise, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Solovyov.
"We want to make a cargo-returnable ship on the basis of the Eagle," Solovyov said.
According to the general designer, this ship will replace the existing "Progress", which now solve the tasks of cargo delivery to the International Space Station, refueling, orbit correction. "Progress has a serious drawback - we can't return a payload from orbit on it. The disadvantage is that it burns down, " he explained.
The promising space manned spacecraft " Eagle "(formerly called" Federation") is being created as part of the Russian lunar program. The first launch of the" Eagle " without astronauts on board is scheduled for December 15, 2023 from the Vostochny cosmodrome, during this flight, the ship will not dock with the ISS. In 2024, the Eagle will perform a second flight (also without astronauts), followed by docking with the station. In 2025, the first manned flight is planned.
