Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid has offered the European Union to finance the creation of an air defense system in the country to protect against the "Russian threat".
She stated this in an interview with the publication Diplomaatia, which was reprinted by ERR.
Kaljulaid noted that the five years that Estonia "sat" at the NATO headquarters in Brussels did not contribute to the creation of its own air defense system on its territory, provided that Tallinn regularly spends more than 2% of GDP on military needs.
"Maybe, at least for the sixth year, we will recognize this fact or create a new mechanism for allocating funds? In this matter, the EU is acting more effectively than NATO, " she is quoted as saying Rubaltic.ru.
