MOSCOW, August 27/ Sputnik Radio. The Turkish authorities have agreed to help with the management of the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, Al-Jazeera TV channel reports, citing a source in the Taliban movement*.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara had received a request from the new Afghan authorities to manage the capital's air harbor.
He added that on Friday, the first talks between Turkish representatives and the Taliban took place in Kabul. The discussion, which lasted more than three hours, took place at a military facility at the airport of the Afghan capital, where the Turkish embassy is temporarily located.
The situation in Afghanistan has worsened in recent weeks with the offensive of Taliban militants* on major cities. It ended on August 15 after the radicals entered Kabul and took control of the presidential palace.
Afghan leader Ashraf Ghani resigned and went into exile, and the Taliban announced that the war in the country is over.
The evacuation of foreign citizens and Afghans working for foreign missions is carried out through the only airport in Kabul, which will be controlled by the military of the United States and other NATO member countries until the end of August.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that the Pentagon told about the US readiness for potential new attacks on the airport of the Afghan capital.
