The Kalashnikov Group of Companies (part of Rostec) is developing comprehensive equipment for military personnel, a new version of the PPK-20 submachine gun will be finalized by the end of the year, as well as the small arms system will be modernized. This was announced on Friday by the company's CEO Vladimir Lepin in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel within the framework of the Army-2021 forum.
At the forum, Kalashnikov presented an upgraded version of the PPK-20 submachine gun based on the Vityaz-SN, which was developed for the tasks of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. "This is a full-fledged sample. And we promised the Defense Minister that by the end of this year we will finalize it, conduct the necessary tests. And at the end of the year, we hope that the submachine gun will become part of the means that the Ministry of Defense may lack," he said.
Lepin added that the submachine gun was refined for specific tasks, now it has a folding stock to reduce the size, a low-noise shooting device, the Picatinny bars were also modified. "The concern has been working on this for almost a year. We brought the big topic that began back in the late 90s, there was such a topic "Vityaz-SN". They made a submachine gun for the tasks of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, because it is a 9x19 caliber, it was in demand by them," he said.
The General Director of the Kalashnikov Group of Companies also spoke about plans to modernize the entire system of equipment for military personnel, which should undergo comprehensive changes, starting from the protection system, the defeat system, the communication system and everything related to it. "As for the defeat system, it will also undergo serious changes. We demonstrated the new approach to the Defense Minister the day before yesterday, with which the minister agreed, " he said.
According to Lepin, the purpose of the modernization of small arms is to enable a soldier to measure the range to the target of destruction, so that the shooter does not think about how he hits it. "In small arms, we have come to this, we have shown that modern rifle systems, destruction systems must meet the challenges that our armed forces will face. First of all, these are new ballistic solutions, which were not discussed at all before, but today the moment has come, " he said.
The international military-technical Forum "Army-2021" is being held at the Patriot exhibition Center near Moscow from August 22 to 28.
